OVER DRIVE
A side-scroller space shoot-em-up with a twist - each time you fire your guns, you lose points. So the goal is to collect as many coins as possible for points whilst using guns as little as possible.
INSTRUCTIONS: Click right mouse button for thrust towards the mouse pointer. Left mouse button to fire. 'W' to change color.
When blue, only blue lasers harm you and only collisions with blue enemies hurt you. When red, only red lasers harm you and only collisions with red enemies hurt you. But your lasers are the same - only your red lasers can hurt red enemies and only blue lasers hurt blue enemies.
TIPS: The goal is to collect coins (5 points). Each time you fire lasers, you lose 1 point. So - as only the same color enemies hurt you, the first wave you can just fly through and collect the coins. The second wave - change color and fly through. Then from there it gets harder (balance color, movement and dodging)

Very cool and unique game! I didn't find myself firing and I found the movement a bit fiddly, but I'm sure that was by design. I also found changing colours a bit fidly, maybe middle mousewheel could also have the player change colour? Then it could all be played on mouse. Lastly, sound got pretty loud when multiple lasers firing. Despite these comments, I want you to know I really enjoyed this game!

yeah so i had like -300 points when i finished, is that an accomplishment? also yeah this was a pretty fun game that fit the theme too :)

Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately I didn't have enough time in the jam for putting a detailed tutorial in the game. So I've added a bit more clarity in the description. Right mouse to move, left to fire and W to change color. The goal is to collect coins to increase score. Highest score at the end of the run is the aim! Thanks!

Is there a leaderboard?
The game tracks highest score achieved, so the leaderboard would be the highest score (see top right on title screen for the highest score on that computer).
I thought that was the ask from the jam - that it has a highest score to compare results, and it is fine to compare offline results. But is there something specific needed?

I am really not sure lol. I was just wondering if there was a score or something because I didn't see it at first. Sorry for any confusion!
Ahh no worries! Yes - highest score is tracked locally! Gain points by collecting coins and the twist is you lose points for firing lasers, incentivising dodging where possible.
Feel free to post a score here in the comments and maybe that can be the leaderboard in a pinch!! :)
